Hotel Libertad is right in the heart of Santiago de Cuba, capital of the province of the same name and considered Cuba’s most Caribbean city. The hotel faces the popular Plaza de Marte which served as a military parade ground and slave trade market during colonial times. Today, Plaza de Marte is a place to relax, gossip, play chess and debate the finer points of baseball – all in all, a lively, cheerful square for Santiagueros of all ages.

The plaza is surrounded by new places to relax, eat and shop, including the (Latin) Jazz Club Iris, a natural juice bar, an ice-cream (and chocolate) parlor, and a coffee shop Mama Ines, where literary themes are discussed on occasion.

Hotel Libertad puts you at the doorstep of these sites. Others, such as bustling Heredia Street, the Casa de la Trova, El Museo del Ron, Casa de Diego Velázquez and Parque Céspedes, are within walking distance.

Hotel Libertad is a two-star property with plenty of "old charm". The rooms and bathrooms are small and some rooms don’t have windows, so potential guests are advised to manage expectations accordingly. There is a lobby bar and a large rooftop terrace as well as a restaurant on the main floor. When the rooftop terrace is open you can enjoy your meal underneath the tropical sky.

Hotel Libertad is especially popular during two of Santiago’s most important festivals: Carnival and the Fiesta del Fuego.
