No chance of being bored: beaches, diving and nature
Villa Trópico is a truly authentic Cuban choice: the architecture is along the lines of buildings designed for tourism during the early years of the Cuban Revolution. It was built in the 1960s over the foundations of fortifications left over from the Missile Crisis. Many of the employees live in the neighboring towns and villages and some have even been working there for decades, thereby explaining the great feeling of ownership they have in regards to the hotel.+ Read more
The hotel is on Arroyo Bermejo Beach, one of the hidden treasures of the northern coast. It has access to three kilometers of coral reef at just 50 meters from the shore, reachable by swimming or by taking a water bike (included). If snorkeling is not enough for you, there is a fully equipped diving center whose specialized instructors will be pleased to guide you to the best dive sites.
The neighboring hills are crisscrossed by trails, some of which have been designed for excursions. Ask for more information at the lobby. Even though it has not been declared a nature reserve, the area has amazing biodiversity, making it interesting for birdwatchers and nature-lovers in general. In the vicinity you can also lease horses or bicycles.
Specialties of the House
This is an all-inclusive hotel. The staff has created a menu that uses local resources and the dishes are typically Cuban fare, cooked as they would be at home, something that’s hard to find in the industrial kitchens of large hotels.
Jibacoa is the most important beach in a group of beaches in the mountainous area of Alturas Habana-Matanzas, designed as public beaches after the Triumph of the Revolution. You can be at the highest bridge in Cuba, Bacunayagua, in just 15 minutes, looking out over a lovely landscape from a height of 120 meters. Enjoy their delicious piña coladas, their local drink.
- Ideal for those with adventure on their minds: beaches, hiking, bird-watching and diving
- On Playa Jibacoa, between Havana and Matanzas
- Comfortable, out of the way and modest, right on the Atlantic Ocean
Don’t forget to bring your driver’s license. The Jeep Safari is an excursion where you join a caravan of 4 x 4s, as driver or passenger, and travel through the area of Jibacoa and the Yumuri Valley.
