What grabs our attention and peaks our imagination, having us fall in love with this small hotel, is the environment which surrounds it and the lifestyle it inspires.  La Moka lies in the small community of Las Terrazas, perched on the banks of San Juan Lake. The roughly one thousand inhabitants have struck a balance between tourism and taking care of the biological diversity of this biosphere reserve, one of the best preserved in the country.

The hotel stylistically echoes the architecture of the houses and buildings in this miniature city and it seeks to blend into the landscape without disturbing the scenery. It is simple yet comfortable. Located in the middle of the mountain range, we feel like we are in a special world: every time you look out from the balcony of your room, it’s like admiring a breath-taking landscape painting in an art gallery.

La Moka can also be an attractive destination for those who need a rest after a long hike, horseback riding, or canopy touring. The following day you can indulge in less intense activities such as bird-watching or swimming in the waters of the San Juan River. Anything is possible. The infrastructure created to blend tourism and nature provides us with many opportunities to live life to the max.

Taking up 260 square kilometers, the area possesses extraordinary biological diversity with over 800 plant species and 73 types of birds. In the Las Terrazas community you can see the beautiful ruins of 18th-century French coffee plantations, the heritage left by the Spanish colonists and their descendants who have devoted themselves to growing Corojo tobacco since the 18th century, and you can listen to the voices of the locals as expressed through the songs of Polo Montañez, the “guajiro natural” who put Las Terrazas on the musical map of Latin America.

  • Ideal for anyone who loves eco-tourism and sustainable development
  • A hotel in the heart of a nature reserve in the Sierra de los Órganos mountain range
  • A blend of Cuban history and the richness of its flora and fauna

Cuba Travel Network tip

Keep in mind that you should coordinate your means of transportation because this is a bit off the beaten track and there is abundant vegetation all around. And be sure to bring along your mosquito repellant!
