Take Havana’s pulse right at its heart: The Tryp Havana Libre is just a few steps away from the historical center, at the most important intersection of the city for all the urban transportation routes. Close by are cinemas and theaters, nightclubs and the Malecón. One could say it borders on both old and new Havana and you can see it all from the upper floors.
Once the Havana Hilton, this hotel belonged to the extensive American chain when it was inaugurated in 1958; it is one of the last large buildings to be built in the capital prior to the Triumph of the Revolution in 1959.
The Tryp Havana Libre has 10 multi-purpose halls, ideal for business, conventions and events. It has 572 rooms (categorized as Tryp, Tryp Panoramic View, Premium Guest Room, Junior Suite, Suite and Presidential Suite); 5 restaurants (buffet, international, Cuban, Oriental and the snack bar-restaurant); 5 bars (lobby bar, bar, snack bar, Turquino Party Room and the breakfast room on the Executive Floor). It also has round the clock room service, a pool, beauty salon and shopping.
If you want to explore outside the hotel, you can also visit privately-run restaurants in the area such as Waoo!, La Cocina de Esteban, Café Laurent, or La Paila.
During the first two weeks of December the vicinity of the hotel buzzes with events connected with the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, one of Havana’s, and Cuba’s, largest cultural events of the year.
It is in Havana’s Vedado district, an area that was designed to accommodate the residences of Havana’s upper middle class before 1959. Although it began to grow at the end of the 19th century, the area where the Habana Libre is located started to be very important from the mid-20th century because of the head offices of Cuban and multinational businesses set up there, along with the biggest bank branches, radio and TV studios, modern office buildings and apartment towers, many cinemas, theaters, restaurants and nightclubs. This all turned the stretch of 23rd Ave., going from the hotel to the Malecón, known as La Rampa, into a district that is considered to be the downtown area of the city.
Highlights

CTN Tip
Make sure you visit the Turquino Party Room and the Sierra Maestra Restaurant on the top floor (night and day, respectively). Bring along your camera to get the best panoramic shots of the city.
