Because of its worldwide reputation, some important folk have stayed here: from the Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova, to the controversial French actress Sarah Bernhardt, the famous matador Luis Mazzantini, and Brazilian theologian Frei Betto. Established in 1875 and declared a National Monument in 1981, it served as the base for some of the action related to the struggles for Cuban Independence. It was the site of meetings among intellectuals and thinkers, especially in the very lively El Louvre Café.

Central, beautiful, cultural

Providing easy access to Parque Central, the Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso (home to the National Ballet of Cuba), the Capitol Building , the museums of World Art and Cuban Art, among so many other special places, the Inglaterra is also a magnificent building in itself. The splendid neoclassical façade leads into a Moorish-style interior, impressive for its amazing Sevillian tiled walls. All the rooms have their own bathrooms and are air-conditioned, decorated in a modern style and equipped for comfort. Not to be missed is its Gran Café El Louvre on the terrace outside the main entrance, bustling with musicians, artists, travelers, poets and all kinds of visitors to the city.

The Paseo del Prado is one of Havana’s most important avenues. Its length marks the border between Old havana and Centro Habana, two of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. It is divided into four basic parts: Paseo, Parque Central, Explanada del Capitolio and Parque de la Fraternidad.

Highlights

  • The perfect location from which to explore Havana
  • Close to antique 1950s convertible automobiles
  • Spectacular view from the terrace

CTN tip

If noise bothers you, ask for a room not facing the street. El Prado is one of the loveliest boulevards in Havana and can be very busy.
