The majestic proportions of the Florida’s common spaces contrast with the natural look of its 25 rooms, which are distinguished by simple, cozy furnishings. The hotel has been functioning for over a century at the same location, but it owes its comfort to some of the amenities of modern life.

Inaugurated as a hotel in 1885, It was one of the first to be established in the Villa de San Cristóbal de La Habana. However, the actual building dates back to earlier times, to 1836 in fact. It served as a residence for businessmen and Spanish aristocrats. Because of its proximity to the Port of Havana, for some time it also functioned as a warehouse and provided space for a number of small colonial-period shops and bodegas. In the 1930s, it even served as the headquarters of the Club Británico de La Habana.

Perfectly good taste

Undecorated columns, exposed roof beams and colonial lanterns invite you to enter the exquisite central courtyard. This spacious area has a sliding glass roof, providing natural lighting for our guests to relax and read.

What a contrast as soon as you cross the threshold into the crowded hustle and bustle of calle Obispo. This you can experience during the day and then enjoy a quiet evening dining at the small, cozy Floridiana Restaurant. Save some time for live music at the Maragato Bar, named after one of Havana’s most talented bartenders.

In the vicinity of the hotel, you will be able to discover the newest privately-owned restaurants and bars, ideal to mix and mingle with the locals.

The Hotel Florida is on the centrally located calle Obispo, one of the busiest pedestrian streets in the city. Full of shops, businesses, restaurants and cultural centers, a walk along this street will naturally lead you towards other impressive spots, a few blocks away: Plaza de Armas, the City Museum (Palacio de los Capitanes Generales) and Casa del Tabaco, just to name a few.

  • Über central hotel in the heart of Old Havana
  • Luxurious and elegantly decorated with period styles throughout the building
  • Lovely central courtyard with a sliding glass roof that lets in the daylight

CTN tip

Make sure you order Pollo Florida for one of your dinners. It’s the house specialty and a great chance to savor a very popular Cuban dish.
