Ambos Mundos is located in one of the busiest corners of Old Havana (Obispo and Mercaderes), in the center of the city of Havana. From their balconies you can experience the comings and goings of people, their social dynamics, and the colorful and unmistakable sound that emanates from their gestures, their announcements, their loud conversations and their music. Perhaps this is why Ernest Hemingway (Nobel Prize for Literature 1954) made one of their rooms his first home on the Island.

You can discover the surroundings of this place as if you were watching a movie from your balcony. Or even better, you can go down to the street to meet the Cubans. It does not matter if you are shy, there will always be a Cuban who comes to say "Hi" with a great tropical smile. Nearby you can visit La Catedral, Plaza de Armas, La Bodeguita del Medio and other sites that refer to the XVIII century. El Floridita, where Hemingway himself liked to drink his famous Daiquiri, is only a few blocks away.

Enjoy the bohemian vibe

Another fascinating thing about the hotel is its elegant eclectic style and its old OTIS brand elevators (the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building, among others, also have them). All its rooms are very similar to 511. There, more than 80 years ago, the famous American writer finished his book Death in the Afternoon and began the novels Green Hills of Africa and To Have and Have Not. On the terrace you can enjoy the barbecue and spectacular views while enjoying an exquisite cocktail or a refreshing Cuban cristal beer. If you are looking to host an event, do not hesitate to make use of the Del Monte room, with capacity for 120 people and it also functions as an art gallery. Furthermore, attend the many presentations of jazz players in the lively lobby of the hotel.

Obispo Street is one of the main artisinal streets of downtown Havana. There are many shops, businesses, restaurants and cafes. It is a busy street where the warmth, the hospitality and the chatter of Cubans make it a place full of life.

  • Perfect to get to know the most pure and picturesque side of today’s Havana.
  • Beautiful views, art exhibitions, Cuban music and jazz.
  • The hotel hosted the famous American writer Ernest Hemingway.

Cuba Travel Network Tip

Order Hemingway's favorite food. The Plaza de Armas restaurant will serve you with kindness and distinction.
