Nuevitas

Nuevitas is a municipality and port town in Camagüey Province. The large bay was sighted by Christopher Columbus in 1492, later becoming one of the first settlements of Camagüey city.

Nuevitas is sheltered by a huge harbor, has two auxiliary ports, and is a major shipping point for Cuban sugar as well as other products from the surrounding agricultural region.
The city is located not very far southwest of Playa Santa Lucía, which is one of the regions working to develop the tourist industry in Cuba. Cayo Sabinal is located immediately north, other cays are Cayo Guajaba and Cayo Romano, both still unspoilt with great potential for tourism development.
