Even if you are not particular interested in Cuba’s historical events, the provincial capital that benefits from having a large student population, is well worth a visit. Parque Vidal, is not only the geographical heart of the city, it is also its social centre. During the weekends there is usually some sort of cultural activity going on in Parque Vidal. One of Cuba’s few remaining theaters of the Colonial era, Teatro de Caridad is a great example of the elaborate architecture from the Colonial period.

Erected twenty years after his untimely death in 1967, the monumento Ernesto Che Guevarra is without a doubt the city’s main tourist attraction. A visit to Santa Clara’s tobacco factory, one of the best in the country, is a must for cigar lovers who want to learn all about the creation of a Montecristo’s or Romeo y Julieta.
